About Us

The Bridge Project is an outreach ministry to the East Side neighborhood of Asheboro, NC. About seven years ago, we moved to Randolph County to begin this work. The East Side is a predominately black community full of rich history and good people. We have come to love this area, but it is admittedly not without problems. Poverty, broken homes, and drug abuse are not difficult to spot. In our view, however, these are smaller problems rooted in something much deeper. The root issue seems to be a pervasive sense of hopelessness stemming from chronic isolation. To put it bluntly, we believe the history of black Americans to be a history of exclusion. Black Americans have long been on the business end of the vicious lie that skin color determines the value of a soul. The resulting brokenness lies beneath much of the apparent depravity.
This brokenness is our focus. Everything that we do is about identifying ourselves with the people of this community and creating space for a spark of hope. How do we do this? We take kids to church with us and share a meal with them afterwards. We take these same kids to camp each summer. We read Bible stories to the children at the local Boys & Girls Club. We strive to be open to going wherever our people are. Our highest aim, though, is to feel and pray. We believe strongly that God has called us to embrace the joy and pain of our people, and to lift it all to Him. You should know that we don't do anything on our own. We look to partner with the local churches and organizations who have been there longer than we have, and have earned the right to lead.
